The 2023 NENSA Eastern High School Nordic Championships are at Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton, VT this weekend. Here is a Maine team recap: In the boys classic we had Eli Shifrin (3), Abram Geissinger (6), Ben Condit (7) and the girls had Clara white (9), Annabelle brooks (8), Kaylee Bell (7), and Ruth White (1). Overall was Eli shifrin was third and Ben Condit was second.
The 2023 Eastern High School Alpine Championship was held March 3rd-5th at the Mittersill Performance Center at Canon Mountain, NH. Taylor Gordon of Mt. Blue finished in first place for team Maine and 6th overall, Hadley Prewitt of Marshwood finished second for team Maine and 7th overall, Brooke Boone of Yarmouth finished third for team Maine and 12th overall. The girls team finished the overall championships in 4th place out of a field of 12 teams and 123 racers.
The 2023 Maine U16/EHSC Nordic Team selection race was held today at Black Mtn in Rumford. There was a 5K classical race (with tricky snow conditions) and a 2.5K freestyle pursuit. Nora McCourt of Mt. Blue and Henri McCourt were the top U16 skiers. Ruth White of Orono and Ben Condit of Edward Little/Quarry Road were the top EHSC skiers. The 2023 Leavitt Duathlon was held today at the Maine Outdoor Wellness Center in Turner. A fun event to celebrate the season where participants dress up in costumes and ski a lap classical then change skis and ski a lap freestyle. There were snow balls, smiles, and sweet treats. The state wide Alpine and Nordic coaches meeting will take place in March. The spring meeting of the Maine Nordic Ski Coaches Association will be on Tuesday, March 14th at Maranacook starting at 6:00pm. The spring meeting of the Maine Alpine Ski Coaches Association will also be on Tuesday, March 14th at Maranacook starting at 6:00pm. The KVAC Ski coaches meeting will be on March 14th at Maranacook at 5:30pm.
The 2023 Maine Alpine Shootouts were held today at Black Mtn in Rumford with fresh powder to determine the members of the Maine EHSC Alpine team. 31 girls and 39 boys qualified to race in the shootouts with the top 12 making the team. The following girls made the Alpine team: Taylor Gordon, Hadley Prewitt, Brooke Boone, Jaden Boulanger, Margo Hesson, Lily Boulanger, Lydia Phipps, Sophie Simard, Anya Monson, Phoebe Bell, Breezy Quimby, and Katie Yeaton. The following boys made the Alpine team: Logan Schwartz, Quinn Maguire, Landon Marquis, Timothy Teguis, Porter Beaule, Ian Christie, Killian Marsh, Zach Vogel, Jett Lindelof, Keegan Lathrop, Charlie Pye, and Reis Stamaris. Mt Blue boys and girls win Class A NordicDay 2 of the 2023 MPA Class A Nordic Championships were held today at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center with the freestyle pursuit competition under sunny and very cold skies. In the boys freestyle, Henri McCourt of Mt. Blue is the 2023 Class A Freestyle State Champion. His winning time was 14:33.3. Orrin Slover of Edward Little was second with a time of 15:20.7. Isaac Seeker of Falmouth was third with a time of 15:22.8. In the girls freestyle, Annabelle Brooks of Cheverus is the 2023 Class A Freestyle State Champion. Her winning time was 17:24.1. Nora McCourt of Mt Blue was second with a time of 17:29.8. Bridget Reusch of Mt Blue was third with a time of 17:47.4. In the pursuit, both Henri McCourt and Annabelle Brooks are the 2023 MPA Class A Pursuit champions. The Mt. Blue boys and the Mt. Blue girls are the 2023 MPA Class A Nordic state champions. The Greely boys and girls are runners-up. Also congratulations to Oxford Hills for receiving the MPA Sportsmanship award. RESULTS
