The Selection Race will take place Sunday, 3/2/14 at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center. The race will be held rain or shine! Please plan accordingly. The race is open to any athlete attending a high/private school in Maine, or any Maine resident attending a school out of state.
The race will start with the Girls 5km Classic race at 10:00, followed by the Boys at 11:30. In the afternoon the Girls Pursuit FS race will start at 2:00and the Boys at 3:00. Race times may be adjusted slightly, so check the MHSS website later this week.
The top 24 finishers in the Pursuit results will be the Maine Team to represent Maine at the NENSA Easter High School Championships at Mountain Top, Vermont. We do have some athletes who qualified for the Junior Olympics and following our Selection Race rules they will be the first athletes selected to the team. We are awaiting word if they wish to ski at the EHSC. The actual number of slots for the team will be posted before the start of the race.
The entry fee is $16.00 per athlete for pre-registration and $20 per athlete for day of registration. Make check payable to Sugarloaf Outdoor Center. Preregistration is highly desired: Day of Race registration is $20.00 Please only attend this race if you are serious about attending the EHSC in Vermont March 14th-16th. Please note that the Selection Race is not an MPA sanctioned race, and is run under NENSA/FIS rules. Athletes must be prepared to register right after the Selection Race and pay a non-refundable team fee of $340.00. The higher cost this year reflects the extremely limited (and expensive) lodging options at the race site. The team will be staying on site in private homes. The last time we raced there everyone agreed it was worth the expense to stay there.
